This module focuses on travel, exploration and, potentially, even some heroism. It is intended to bring together a new group of player characters in your campaign setting, connect them with a patron who may fund their future exploratory excursions, and potentially acquaint them with some retainers. It makes a good jumping off point for an old school exploratory fantasy campaign and is written with this end in mind.

The player characters are not the titular adventurers. They have, in fact, been hired by the mayor of a small town (Barstock) located on the eastern edge of the wilds to trail the titular adventurers and find out why they have not returned to town.

The missing adventurers are a band of rag-tag locals composed of the mayor’s teenage daughter, Morgan, and three of her friends (Ernst, Halley, and Leander). They absconded with an ox cart (and two oxen), leaving a note that outlined their intention to explore a well known tomb located roughly one day’s journey (26 miles) from town and to return to town as heroes. That was more than a week ago. They have not returned, as heroes or otherwise.

This module will take the player characters on a short journey along the road to the west of Barstock into the vast expanse of wilderness where they will, if they are equal parts smart and lucky, discover the fate of the missing adventurers and, perhaps, return to town as local heroes of small renown. If they are not equal parts smart and lucky, they may end up being the next group of missing adventurers.
